Landscaping and gardening in Aylsham

Aylsham is a proper old market town, and it has the gardens to match. A good deal of the work here is around property that was built long before anyone thought about garden access.

Gardens in Aylsham

The older parts of Aylsham, around the Market Place and the streets running off it, are a conservation area with a lot of Georgian and earlier property. Those gardens tend to be walled or hedged, often with original brick or brick-and-flint boundaries, and they are usually reached through a narrow entry, not a side gate wide enough for a barrow. It changes how a job is planned before it changes what the job is.

Old walls are worth more thought than they usually get. A boundary wall that has stood a couple of centuries is generally worth keeping and repairing, and in a conservation area that may not be your decision to make anyway. Newer housing round the edges of the town is a straightforward job by comparison.

Getting to you Around fifteen miles up the A140, so this is project work, not a weekly round: patios, fencing, decking, clearances and full makeovers. A job that runs a week or two justifies the drive. Quote visits are still free and still not charged for.

Why clients return to Bowen’s

  • “We were so happy to find Danny at Bowen’s via Bark… His prices seem very fair and our patios now look 100 times better. He arrived on the dot of 9am this morning as promised and both men worked really hard to finish the job before dark.”

Frequently asked questions

Questions from Aylsham customers

01. We are in the conservation area. What does that affect?

Mostly walls, outbuildings and anything attached to the property, plus trees that may carry preservation orders. A patio or planting away from the house is usually unaffected. If something looks like it needs permission we will say so before starting and point you at Broadland District Council instead of pressing on.

02. There is no side access to our garden. Can you still work?

Yes, and it is common in the older streets. It means materials and waste go through the house or the entry by hand, which adds time without making the job impossible. We will factor it into the quote openly, so there is no surprise partway through.

03. Is it worth you coming this far for a small job?

For a half day, probably not, and we will say so instead of quoting a price padded out with travel. For anything that runs a few days it makes no difference to what you pay. Ring and describe it and we will give you a straight answer.
