Costessey, said Cossey, sits north-west of us across the city. Old and New Costessey are really two places, and the gardens tell you which one you are in.
Gardens in Costessey
Old Costessey, down towards the Wensum and the Tud, has the older housing and the larger, more established plots. Some of the gardens down there run to the river valley and carry mature trees, which brings shade, leaf fall and root competition into the picture. New Costessey and the estates around Queen’s Hills are a different job entirely: modern plots, uniform fencing, and gardens that were handed over as turf and a boundary.
The lower ground near the river also drains differently to the higher, sandier ground further up. It matters more than people think when it comes to laying a patio or putting fence posts in, because a base that works on one will not necessarily work on the other. We dig out and look before quoting, never assuming.
Getting to you About five miles by road, though it means crossing the city instead of driving straight out. Regular maintenance and one-off projects both work here, and we cover Old Costessey, New Costessey and Queen’s Hills.

Questions from Costessey customers
01. Our garden sits wet all winter. Can that be fixed?
Usually it can be improved a great deal, and sometimes solved outright. It depends whether the cause is compaction, the natural ground, or water coming off a hard surface with nowhere to go. Those need different answers, so it is worth looking properly before spending money. We will tell you if we think it can only be improved and not cured.
02. Do you cover Queen’s Hills and the newer estates?
Yes, along with Old and New Costessey. Newer estates tend to want fencing, patios and something built into a blank garden, which is a good deal of what we do.
03. There are big trees overhanging our garden. Can you deal with them?
We do tree work, though the answer depends on the tree and whose it is. You are generally allowed to cut back overhanging growth to the boundary, and the cuttings belong to the owner. Preservation orders change that entirely. We will check before doing anything that cannot be undone.
